I am always amazed at the body’s ability to adapt to change – especially when you discover you’re pregnant and find out that your body is a remarkable instrument for growing a new life and sustaining it.  It is also the time when you realise how much pregnancy takes from your body to build a baby!  If the pregnancy isn’t taking calcium from you bones and teeth, then the pressure on your skin to accommodate your changing form brings its own issues; such as stretch marks; tired legs and feet; and hair loss.  And with it being my third baby bump, these changes are more exacerbated.  Fun.

We both live in trousers.  Whether the humble jean, the capri pant, the boyfriend camo trousers, or a good legging – trousers are an essential part of our “mum uniform” here at NotSuchAModelMum.   The unpresuming trouser may have started in a man’s world, but they have certainly made their home in a woman’s wardrobe.

We both see our clothes as an extension of our personalities and are always looking for fun new additions to our daily outfits, whether tops or trousers, or any item of clothing.  So when BonMarche approached us to test drive their new formal trouser collection,we jumped at the chance…And hopefully we would be adding to our personalities and our wardrobes on this mission as well!

So, Mother’s Day is just around the corner and whether it’s your first one or you are a Mother’s Day veteran, there’s something for us all in this gift guide.  That would explain why we both look so happy in these pics!  So, hubbies take note and, if said hubbies don’t deliver the goods (!)…then there’s no reason why we can’t treat ourselves to a lovely little something.  Even if it is nothing more than a few childfree hours.

We have just skidded our way home in the snow from the brilliant Facebook breakfast, celebrating both ‘International Women’s Day’ and also, the centenary of women being able to vote.  It was an incredible morning that was jam-packed full of incredibly inspirational, strong women: from Samantha Morton & Kanya King (founder of the MOBO Awards) to Met Commissioner Cressida Dick & Nicola Mendleshon (Vice President of Facebook for Europe, Middle East and Africa).

Please tell us that we are not the only mothers out there who struggle to make their children read?!  For two people who always have a book in their handbags, this is very frustrating.  Reading is a huge part of both of our lives.  When we first started modelling in the time before iPhones (!) the only way to while away the hours queuing at castings, waiting at airports and hotels, was to whip out a good book and dive into the pages.  Because we are bookworms, we are both insistent that our kids grow up surrounded by books and develop a love for something other than iPads.  So, when Sainsbury’s, a National Literacy Trust partner, asked us to collaborate with them and support World Book Day on the 1st March, we jumped at the chance.

When it comes to make-up, it’s safe to say that we all have our go-to products that suit our look; and we very rarely try anything new.  This becomes more and more apparent when you become a mum – when those precious five minutes to fix your face before heading out the door with the kids, leave little time for experimenting with new make-up and styles.

If, like me, you are someone who likes things easy peasy, and prefer make-up that needs little or no re-application throughout the day, then a good eyeliner is the way forward.  In my teens, I was never without it, and, now that I am that little bit older – and need a healthy dose of some magic to make my tired eyes look more awake – I am back to wearing eyeliner…..And I love it.

I was prepared for the post-baby ‘jiggly belly’, for the saggy boobs, and the tired peepers peering out from under-eye suitcases.  But one thing I wasn’t prepared for during and after my three pregnancies was the post partum hair loss.  Then, to exacerbate the matter, once I had got my head around the fact that my once lustrous tresses were a shadow of their former selves, then came along the charming baby hair regrowth.  This was not subtle – in fact it looked like I had purposefully cut a tiny fringe, into two little devil horns at the front of my head.  Not a good look.  And to think that Caroline has all this to look forward to once she pops out baby number three!!

With this pregnancy being my third one, you would think that I would be a maternity wear expert by now!  If only it was that simple.  With every pregnancy and year that passes, I have found that both my style and body shape have adjusted, and that this affects not only what I want to wear, and, also what suits me.  I’ve also discovered that this time around, I have been looking for essential pieces that I can wear, not only as maternity wear, but also post pregnancy.  And I have also chanced upon some other new up and coming brands that are finally putting maternity wear into the cool bracket.  So, here goes!

Getting out the door with the three kids in tow is no mean feat.  Feeling smug that I have managed to get all three boys up and out the door by 8am, I skip out the door and glance quickly in the mirror as I leave. Oh God.  The boys may be all sprightly and bushy tailed, but I look like the tired old lady I really am.  I rummage in my bag and grab for two life savers (dramatic, I know, but it’s true) that I discovered on a catalogue shoot that took place outdoors.

It is going to be an exciting year for me with the arrival of my third baby, and all the craziness that comes with a newborn.  In the meantime, however, I am getting used to my rather large baby bump, and investing heavily in things that make me feel good.  At the moment, that seems to be lipsticks that add a bit of colour to my knackered face.  A good red lippie makes me feel great and is also something that will also work post pregnancy.  My red lipstick make up bag staple was a lovely red Chanel Lotus Rouge coloured lipstick – that was until the peeps at Chanel kindly decided to discontinue it.  It was the perfect colour – subtle enough to work during the day, and strong enough to take me through the night.  Now it was gone, what was I going to do?!
