We love discovering and supporting up and coming British brands, and we recently happened to stumble upon the brilliant designer Justine Tabak.  Having worked as creative director at Fendi, Laura Ashley and M&S (to name but a few), she set up her fledging namesake label, Justine Tabak, where all the pieces are sourced and made in the UK.  Justine only works with small British manufacturers, and her love and attention to detail is reflected in her beautifully made clothes.  She finds inspiration for her clothing collections from across the British Isles, scouring the lengths and breadths of the country for new ideas.    We have totally fallen in love with her collection, and one top in particular, stole our hearts!

We love this Oxford Gingham Cotton Top for its modern take on the classic school girl gingham, and have styled the top in two totally different ways, reflecting both our differing styles and characters.  We both love  bit of gingham, but haven’t really worn it since school…not for want of trying, however!  We just haven’t found a cool style that can pull this design off.  Until we discovered this gingham top!  The clothes are not only beautifully made, but are wearable and great value, as this top easily illustrates.

I love a bit of gingham in my wardrobe, and love this cute three quarter length with white cuff sleeve and school choir boy collared blouse.  This fun, feminine blouse carries the gingham print perfectly.  I’ve paired the top with my grey, low slung leather shorts from Chloe.  I have added a splash of colour with a pair of cobalt blue Loubuton espadrilles.  This look is a firm favourite of mine, especially at this time of year, when the weather isn’t quite hot enough for lighter airy fabrics.

I am wearing the cool gingham top with one of my favourite jeans staples, the TopShop Baxter jeans that just seem to last forever and go with everything!  To make them a little more current, I have turned up the hem of the jeans.  This neat little trick is something that immediately turns classic trousers and jeans into something more fashion forward.  The prim gingham top is balanced by the slightly more edgy jeans

It also allows me to show off my Aquazzura Christy leather flats, which, although pricey, are worn all the time.  I have added a dash of colour using accessories like Caroline, but with a clutch – the orange Vita clutch from Boden – which is not only fashionable, but practical as well.  It fits my mobile phone, money, make up and house keys…essential going out kit sans brats!
